Fractional CTO USA: A CTO Who Builds and Ships

A fractional CTO for US companies who does more than advise: architecture, development, deployment and the operations behind them, on US hours, from $1,500 a month.

The core decision

What a fractional CTO USA engagement covers

Most fractional CTO USA offers sell a few hours of advice a week. This one sells the whole job: deciding the architecture, writing and reviewing the code, deploying it and keeping it running. I have spent 17 years in software and eight at Omnitech, where I started as lead developer on a restaurant platform and have been CTO since December 2023. The multi-tenant CRM, POS and event platforms on this site were designed and shipped under that role, and the SaaS architecture articles here are written from them.

A CTO who also writes and deploys the code

Advice is cheap when someone else has to build it. In each plan I own the decision and the delivery: the schema, the tenant boundary, the CI pipeline, the AWS account and the release. You get the code and the infrastructure in your own repositories and accounts from day one.

Plans priced by the hour you actually use

A full-time US CTO costs $175,000 to $225,000 a year before equity, and US fractional CTOs bill $170 to $250 an hour. My plans run from $1,500 a month for 20 hours of advisory to $8,000 for a full-time equivalent, and the build plans include the development itself rather than quoting it separately.

Where I work

Remotely, on US time zones: a fractional CTO US companies can reach in their own working day, anywhere in the country. There are pages for California, Texas, Washington, New York City and New Jersey with what tends to matter in each, but the work and the plans are the same everywhere.

Fit

Who this helps

  • Founders with an idea, a prototype or an agency build who need one person accountable for the technology.
  • Small and mid-size US businesses whose software has grown past the person who wrote it.
  • SaaS teams adding tenants, roles or integrations faster than the platform was designed for.
  • Companies that need a CTO for investors or customers and someone who can still ship the code.

Scope

What I take on

  • Architecture and stack decisions, written down with their reasons
  • Hands-on development: Laravel, Node.js, Next.js, Python, Flutter and React Native
  • Deployment and cloud operations on AWS, from CI/CD to monitoring and backups
  • Multi-tenant SaaS design: tenant isolation, roles and permissions, per-tenant settings
  • Integrations, data migration and legacy systems, including ones with no API
  • AI features on your own infrastructure when they pay for themselves

Deliverables

What you get

  1. A technology roadmap tied to what the business needs this quarter
  2. Code, infrastructure and releases you own, in your repositories and accounts
  3. A written decision record your next engineer can read
  4. A weekly working session on US hours, plus async updates

Explore all services β†’
What is included in a fractional CTO USA plan?

Architecture decisions, hands-on development, code review, deployment and cloud operations, and the written record of why each decision was made. The CTO plus build and full-time plans include development hours; the advisory plan does not.

What does it cost?

Four monthly plans: CTO advisory at $1,500 for 20 hours, Fractional CTO at $2,800 for 40 hours, CTO plus build at $4,800 for 80 hours, and a full-time equivalent at $8,000 for 160 hours. Ad hoc work is $75 an hour. A US fractional CTO usually charges $170 to $250 an hour, and that rarely includes writing the code.

Do you work on US hours?

Yes. I work full time on US time zones, remotely, with a weekly working session and the same-day answers a product team needs. I do not have a local office and do not claim one.

Which states do you work with?

All of them, remotely and on US hours. The plans and the work are the same in every state; the location pages only cover what tends to matter locally.

Can we start with a fixed-scope project?

Yes. The CTO Strategy Sprint is $4,500 for two weeks and ends with a 12-month roadmap and build, buy or defer decisions. Its fee is credited against a monthly plan booked within 45 days.
