Can your platform change safely?

Score how safely your SaaS platform can take the next feature, customer or integration. Ten minutes, evidence over optimism.

Before you score

Pick the change you are worried about

Score the platform against one real upcoming change, such as 'onboard our largest customer' or 'replace the billing integration', not the platform in general.

Optional. Stays in your browser unless you send the form below.
  1. 0Unknown / absentThe requirement is unclear, unavailable, or unowned.
  2. 1Partially readySome evidence exists, but material gaps remain.
  3. 2ReadyEvidence, ownership and controls are sufficient for the next step.

Score evidence, not optimism. If you cannot point to the data, owner, metric or control, score it 0 or 1.

  1. Tenant isolation

Every query, job and file is scoped to a tenant, and a missing scope fails closed.

  2. Permission model

What users may do is kept separate from which records they may see.

  3. Data model fit

The schema still matches how the business works without workarounds.

  4. Integration inventory

Every integration, its owner and its failure impact is listed.

  5. Integration resilience

Retries, idempotency and timeouts protect against partner failures.

  6. Automated tests

Critical paths are covered by tests that run on every change.

  7. Release safety

Deployments are repeatable, staged and can be reversed quickly.

  8. Database migrations

Schema changes are reviewed, reversible and safe on live data.

  9. Observability

Errors, slow requests and failed jobs are visible within minutes.

  10. Performance headroom

Load is measured and the platform has room for the next growth step.

  11. Security and access

Secrets, admin access and audit trails are controlled and reviewed.

  12. Data migration readiness

Legacy data can be mapped, reconciled and verified before cutover.

  13. Documentation

Architecture, runbooks and integration contracts are current.

  14. Incident response

Someone is on call and past incidents led to real fixes.

  15. Cost visibility

Infrastructure and third-party costs are known per tenant or feature.

Turn the score into a decision

What your total means

24–30

Change with confidence

The platform can take the change. Plan it with a rollback step and watch the two lowest factors during release.

16–23

Reduce the risk first

The change is possible, but weak foundations raise the cost of failure. Fix the lowest-scoring factors before the release.

0–15

Stop and review

The platform is carrying more risk than it shows. Review isolation, releases and integrations before taking on the change.

Your next three actions

  1. 1Name the weakest layerWrite down the lowest-scoring factor and which tenants it could affect.
  2. 2Make it reversibleDecide how the change is switched off or rolled back before it ships.
  3. 3Fix one foundationPick one weak factor to fix this sprint and measure it again after.
